Teaching and engaging in a supportive and motivating manner is considered coaching. A human Resource Consultant could be considered a Coaching Consultant. Probing, testing, and challenging responses are some of the few skills required as a Coach.
Evaluating communications and activities involve and appraisal of both the clients communications and the Consultants. As a coaching consultant one must work in various fields. To evaluate whether a clients goals have been achieved the Consultant will obtain data in relations to the outcome criteria established. Listening to the client’s style of verbal communications and observing the clients nonverbal communication with the Consultant and others accomplish this. The ability to teach becomes a Specialization that requires a competitive edge in any Consulting field. Motivation becomes paramount in this field as well as the ability to lead.
Group interaction is also a key factor in coaching. There are classifications of groups that are either primary or secondary, according to their structure and type of interaction. Some responsibilities for these Consultants will be with a primary group, which is a small, intimate group in which the relationships among members are personal, spontaneous, sentimental, cooperative, and inclusive. Examples are the family, a playgroup of children, informal work groups, and friendship groups.
Other may be a task group. The task group is on e of the most common types of work related groups to which employees or company staff belong. Examples are health care committees, team meetings conference groups. The focus of such groups is the completion of a specific task, and the leader and or members define the format at the outset. The methods used to perform the task vary according to the task performed. The coach is usually the leader therefore is the expert in the area the task emphasis. Their role is to identify the specific task, clarity communication and assist in expressing opinions and offering solutions.
There are also self-help groups in which coaching will take place. These will be voluntary organizations composed of individuals who share a similar health social or daily living problem. These groups are based on the helper-therapy principle: Those who help are helped most. Some characteristics are small autonomous groups and form along the lines of friendship networks. They are problem-centered and organized with reference to a specific problem or problems. The members of the group have common goals, and the group forms the group’s goals.
Most Coaching Consultant will have a Masters degree in Human Resources, and or business related fields. Business organizations and the ability to lead seminars and conferences are always sought after. The more credibility and assurance the Consultant shows, the more confidence they exude. The top coaches in this arena can charge $100,000 per person or $10,000 to $25,000 for a two-day executive retreat.
