Universities in the United States are considered some of the best in the world. This in part is due to private funding or federal programs given to colleges. Some Private Universities including State Colleges have programs that are financed through private companies that allow some state of the art research labs.
Millions of dollars are poured into these institutions every year. Whether it’s a contribution or in the form of a grant it has pushed these institutions into a competitive arena. American Universities offer the perfect example of what a high level of education can be when unlimited resources are available. Whether it’s the Universities impeccable record or research facilities they offer it is one of the reasons we have the influx of foreign students in this country.
Every year more and more American Universities are accepting foreign students in their institutions. Some Universities have branches of their system in Europe, Asia, and South America, including the Middle East. This is perhaps why students every year from around the world aspire to study in this country. The advance in research studies including the high tech industry has bridged that gap that made it almost impossible 30 years ago.
Foreign students are not the only ones making the jump across the sea. American students sometimes opt to complete a year of studies abroad, whether to learn the language or to enjoy the different culture this exchange has brought the need for an International Studies Consultant.
As an International Studies Consultant one of the primary functions will be assisting international students entering the American Education system. They are also involved with American students entering a foreign school system Thus, as a consultant one must be well versed in the customs, languages including visa procedures in order to better assist their students.
Another aspect to posses is the knowledge and ability to discern through all the red tape required upon entering this country as a student. From the academia sectors requirements to the embassy’s policies, these are all attained through years of experience. A normal day for an International Studies Consultant includes but is not limited filling out various forms, applications, submitting letters, and researching the various options students have. Furthermore, in today’s exchange of students the language barriers require a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) including an SAT test from most American learning institutions. Once the student has completed the pre-requisites and acceptance is eminent the next step would be to assist the students with their accommodations once in their country of choice.
Of course, an equal amount of work will be spent on students who are going abroad. Although being accepted abroad will be fairly easy for an American student, there are still requirements and procedures that need to be addressed. However, as challenging as the job may be, the fruits of their labor are more than enough to compensate for the hardship. As a Consultant in this field the competition has been pushed up a notch. Having the capacity to juggle more than one student will be noticed and compensated. A Bachelor degree in Business Administration with a few years as a Guidance counselor is highly advised. However a PHD in the appropriate sector with global and International studies is preferred. Salaries will commensurate with experience. Average salary will be from $125,000. To $140,000 a year.
