Getting into the Consulting field takes determination, hard work, and specialization in a sector of a market, product, or service. However in this day and age of outsourcing and the Internet, this industry has become more attainable than ever.

Consulting has been around since ancient times although it may have not been referred to as consulting specifically. Every day new methods, strategies, and analysis is proving fare more result oriented to the rich history of Consulting. The methods used in some areas are expanding their reach from Local, National and International levels. Consulting is widely used in various companies for accurate decision-making and also used on a personal level.

Being a Consutlant already denotes certain professionalism or specialization brouhgt to the industry. Thereofre, the work involved requires either certification or a successfful track record, the other would be the ability to manage their time and budgets to make this a profiitable and full time job. When starting out it as a Consultant it can be feast or famine. A certain balance is required. Ultimately there will be cohesion in the services offered. Weigh all options before becoming a Consultant.

  • Is this part time employent or full time?
  • Is it financially wise to leave the current job?
  • Is putting in time to establish a good clientel without pay a problem?
  • Are sales skills to sell the services to potential clients?
For example with an Engineer background and project submission experience, becoming an Engineering Consulting can be a lucrative career choice. The demands for Engineering Consultants are at a rise. Experienced consultants can make $80,000-$100,000 a year. If the Consultant works as a freelance or per project basis then they can command from $100,00 per project to $150,000. Again these numbers are dependent on bids made and the scope of the work needed. Variations in salaries will also depend on travel needed, Management skills, and a prior proven work history.

Any type of Consultancy can become a lucrative field. However with technology and the 21st century mind set the IT field is considered to be above average. The United States Department of Labor states by the year 2010, there will be more than 1 million employees working in the computer systems and design sector. A big percentage of this figure will be computer systems and design consultants. In fact computer systems and design consultants are rising exponentially every year. For most companies, the possibility of maintaining a full time staff for computer systems analysis and computer systems design is impossible. Especially when expansion occurs the disruption of the networks can cost millions of dollars a day. With the old system in place the company may not have e-business network in place. Therefore, whether working on independent projects or on a full time basis for a private firm Consultants are hired and retained for the ongoing changes that occur. According to the US Department of labor there were 159,000 firms that were related to the Computer System and Design industry. The use and growth in this industry has given concern to security. Internal resources would need to be implemented.
