The Director of Strategic Options and Assessment is responsible for scoping and ensuring delivery of insight and analysis to support the development of early/late assets and portfolio strategies in areas that are particularly complex. The role requires independent and strategic thinking partnership with our therapeutic area leaders (clinical, commercial, etc.), and other business partners to ensure pipeline asset decisions that best position BMS for maximum return on investment and positive patient outcomes. The role is that of a senior analyst providing financial analysis of the development options and using that analysis to provide insights into the tradeoffs among the options, with the goal of enabling value-driven R&D decisions. It will involve coaching more junior analysts and participating as an expert on issues that are especially complex or difficult. The Director will take a significant role in representing SO&A or BIA R&D on pan-matrix initiatives. She/he will also substitute as leader for particular therapeutic areas in cases where the Director for the therapeutic area is not available.
Background
Strategic Options & Assessment (SO&A) is part the R&D arm of BMS’s Business Insights and Analytics (BIA) team. We have two primary roles:
Act as strategy consultants to BMS’s development teams
Help teams create alternative development paths for review by governance
Provide a value lens on those alternatives and highlight the financial tradeoffs among them
Own and manage the methodology and process for assessing probabilities of technical and regulatory success (PTRS) using BMS’s validate approach.
Coordinate the AITs (Analytic Integration Teams) that are key to:
Ensuring that analytic inputs into development decisions are built with consistent assumptions.
Maintaining transparency about those assumptions.
Driving an evergreen view of our development portfolio
Reacting systematically to events that may change the value of BMS’s investment in development
Supporting value-based decision making about amendments or reprioritization of trials that might be created by those events.
