Job Description:
Where you fit in
In February 2021, Shell launched Powering Progress which sets out our strategy to accelerate the transition of our business to net-zero emissions, in step with society, purposefully and profitably. Climate change is an urgent challenge and the world will need to find a way to meet growing demand, while transitioning to a net-zero emissions energy system to counter climate change.
The Strategy, Portfolio & Sustainability (SX) organisation supports the Shell’s Executive Committee and business in their strategic choices. It informs and defines the overarching Group strategy and the annual Strategy Agenda by strategy formulation, advising on portfolio decisions, bespoke strategy projects, and thought leadership. The Powering Progress strategy has fully aligned our sustainability strategy and business strategy in one place. Through this, SX will be accountable for leading the Energy Transition agenda for Shell.
If you aspire to become a leader with a business-like Shell, a senior role with our high-profile Strategy Consultancy team within SX organisation is a must-have learning experience. We are looking for exceptional talents to join one of our hub locations in London or The Hague. This role helps anyone who is willing to make a career in Shell to have the overview of the organization, build an excellent network and have an overall right landing.
As a Senior Strategy Consultant, you will be part of the Shell Strategy Consultancy Group and report to the Strategy Consultancy Manager, Europe. You will be working with some of our most senior leaders to establish business value and future direction. Join us and you’ll have a unique insight into the bigger picture behind one of the world’s largest companies and how we’re planning the planet’s shared energy future.
What’s the role?
In this role, your remit will stretch from defining a business problem to providing clear business-based and implementable recommendations. You’ll draw on internal and external data and weigh many different perspectives.
You can look forward to working on a breadth of strategy projects, across the various global Shell Businesses of Upstream, Downstream, Integrated Gas and Renewables. These projects are fast paced and typically run over 5 months each. You’ll work with senior leaders such as Executive VPs and Executive Committee members across different Shell businesses and geographies (Europe, Asia, Americas) developing an influential network and an impressive CV.
Whilst there’s no direct line management responsibility, you’ll need the all-round people skills to direct small, virtual project teams, harnessing the creativity of others, and to cultivate fruitful stakeholder relationships that help you really understand the problem from your customer’s perspective.
What we need from you?
We’re keen to hear from individuals with strong commercial knowledge and someone who can be conversant with what makes Shell profitable and the challenges facing our business. Although we’re flexible with the degree background, we would also want to hear from MBA holders as much as possible.
Beyond that, we’d like to see the following on your CV:
Extensive experience across commercial, operational, or technical experience, during which time you’ve proven your ability to deliver projects, generate innovative solutions, and bring out the best in others.
Experience and competency in Market research, Consulting, financial analysis.
Ability to analyse complex data and build a ‘So What’ story with synthesis and insights.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to details.
Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to convey complex issues and concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Project management skills involving planning, resource allocation, people management etc.
Self-motivated personality with high sense of accountability to deliver end to end projects
Ability to work with ambiguity and remaining structured
While having prior consultancy experience with one of the premier consultancy firms is not a hard requirement for this role, it would certainly be an advantage to your application.
