Quality Consultant
The Quality Consultant will be responsible for mentoring/coaching the Quality Team and business excellence efforts to ensure the overall success supporting division quality, delivery and cost targets.
16 hours a week initially, then 5-6 hours a week
6 – 12 month assignment
Essential Functions:
• Responsible for mentoring/coaching Quality Manager.
• Steer Quality Manager to resolve technical challenges, ensuring successful tactical execution, as well as creating and implementing the strategic vision for the Quality department.
• Work closely with the program teams and the functional organizations to ensure that all phases of the customer life cycle, from early customer involvement through post-delivery support, meet the requirements for success.
• Advise the QA Manager on quality engineering, quality inspection, continuous improvement, quality training and quality systems functions.
• Suggestions on enhancing manufacturing engineering, operations and design engineering to interact sufficiently throughout the product planning and design phases to ensure a seamless hand-off during product transition to production.
• Ensure the development and implementation of Quality plans and programs promoting sound and effective principles as set forth in company procedures, government standards and directives, and commercially proven methodology and ensure that the department conforms to these principles.
• Coach the Quality Team to continuously improve the efficiency of the Quality organization through effective leadership, individual and group training, and process improvement.
• Recommend new processes, activities, and culture that enhance the customer experience and engage every employee in a quality focused mindset.
• Coach on how to streamline certification and compliance efforts for AS9100, CMMI and other required certifications.
• Review subcontractor inspection or technical document preparation procedures to verify compliance with contract requirements.
• Review independent evaluation of technical gate reviews to ensure technical rigor is being applied to the process.
• Review Supplier performance for general materials and subcontracts including flow down of quality requirements and verification of supplier compliance and performance
• Review process for collection and analysis of internal performance metrics to develop zero defect plans and report to senior leadership on business performance including action plans to improve business execution and status of strategic initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills including communications, facilitation, consulting, coaching, and influencing
• In depth knowledge of quality and reliability methods and procedures for hardware and software systems as they apply to the defense and electronics industry including Optics, composite structures, electro-mechanical assembly and test.
• Proven experience in leading and working with large Companies.
• Highly collaborative style, capable of working across multiple functional areas to drive results.
• Experience with Configuration Control management practices.
• Experience with Agile, Microsoft Program Management
• Experience with NASA, J-STD and IPC standard implementation.
• ASQ certification preferred; Experience managing AS9100 certified business.
