What the role is:

Group Strategy (SX) serves the Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) Executive Committee & Board, the Upstream & Downstream Leadership Teams and senior leaders within the strategic themes. The Strategy Consultancy Group helps Shell do great strategies. We are involved in almost all priority RDS strategic problems.

The Strategy Consultancy team (SX/C) offers a must-have learning experience in strategy for future Shell leaders. You will be trained the McKinsey methodology of problem solving and you’ll be working with some of the most senior people in Shell to establish business value and future direction. You’ll have a unique opportunity to understand the bigger picture for one of the largest companies in the world.

As a Consultant, you take an important role in defining a problem with a business, delivering high quality projects on time, providing clear business-based and implementable recommendations. You draw on internal and external data & perspectives. During their journey in Strategy Consultancy, Consultants work on a breadth of strategy projects. After finishing the assignment, you have worked in several different Businesses and geographies across RDS with a good network.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Execution of project management & work streams within agreed budget and timeline

• Contribute strategic, conceptual and analytical skills to projects

• Secure client support and buy-in through demonstration of value and quality of Strategy & Consultancy project management skills and approach

• Secure commitment of business customer to follow through project recommendations

• Manage stakeholder relationships up to EC / EC-1 level.

• Maintain an externally informed perspective and commercial mindset on our business opportunities and challenges and prioritize activities that deliver value for the enterprise

• Help to build knowledge management system including new tool/framework development, refresh and knowledge transfer

• Demonstrate strong HSSE, cost, D&I and communication

Dimensions :

The close link of the Strategy Consultancy Group with the Strategy teams at Group, Downstream, Upstream, IG, NE and P&T level allows for a joined up direction with the RDS strategic agenda.

Project examples are: Upstream asset reviews, Integrated Strategy Reviews (often Country based), Non-operated / Shell Operated balance, RDS Technical Resource Strategy, RDS Digital strategy, Deepwater review, New Energies strategic intent, Energy transition work.

Project duration is typically 3-4 months.

No direct line responsibility but managing project teams.

Must be identified as High Potential Talent with strong track record in delivery and performance. (Essential)
Strong Business knowledge (Downstream and/or Upstream) with at least 6 years commercial, technical, or operational experience within one or more of the Upstream/Downstream/IG/New Energies businesses (Essential)
Demonstrated leadership and coaching experience (Essential)
Understand how Shell generates value and makes money (Essential)
MBA (Desirable)
Has to build skill to mastery competence in the McKinsey problem-solving methodology
